A Polyglot
One of the most challenging academic assignments that he has handled was teaching Metallurgy in French language for the University of Constantine (Algeria) for about 3 years (1979-1982).
This was a project of the Indian and Algerian Government, that selected a few professors across India for this overseas academic initiative. Dr A V. Ramarao learnt French in his early forties and then taught Metallurgy to Algerian Students. He also learnt German during his post-graduation days. He is deeply interested in Hindi poetry though his mother tongue is Telugu. He is a big fan of Hindi Mahakavi, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar.
An Artist and a Music Lover
Very few people know that he has been a Flutist, a Painter and a Writer. His deep interest has inspired a lot of people in his family and friend circle to enjoy Hindustani, Carnatic and Western Classical genre of Music.
A Thinker
One message from Bhagwad Geeta (Dhyana Yoga) that he stands by and has also shared with many is:
युक्ताहारविहारस्य युक्तचेष्टस्य कर्मसु |
युक्तस्वप्नावबोधस्य योगो भवति दु:खहा ||

yukta-svapnavabodhasya
yogo bhavati duhkha-ha
Adhyaya 6 – Dhyanayoga – Shloka 6.17
SYNONYM
Syukta—regulated; ahara—eating; viharasya—recreation; yukta—regulated; cestasya—of one who works for maintenance; karmasu—in discharging duties; yukta—regulated; svapna-avabodhasya—regulated sleep and wakefulness; yogah—practice of yoga; bhavati—becomes; duhkha-ha—diminishing pains.
TRANSLATION
He who is temperate in his habits of eating, sleeping, working and recreation can mitigate all material pains by practicing the yoga system.
Possibly, this is the belief that has helped him to overcome lots of challenges in his life.
